Aliens is an arcade adaptation of Jim Cameron's masterpiece action film of the same name. You play as Ripley or Hicks, and strap on an M56 Smart Gun to blast your way off the alien infested colonial planet. It's primarily a side-scroller, although some boss fights and APC sequences orient you vertically.

The bestiary of aliens you mow down aren't exactly canonical. In addition to the iconic face huggers and warriors, you'll face bizzare bat aliens, spider aliens, and reanimated zombies, in addition to bosses that defy sensible description (one looks like a vagina).

Despite these liberties, the game captures the urgently claustrophobic feel of the film quite nicely. The atmosphere is translated well - from the tight corridors of the complex (implementing the motion tracker into gameplay was a nice touch), hallways of alien incubating corpses, to the dropship's landing platform bathed in an electric storm. The APC and power loader are featured, including during the mandatory "Get away from her, you bitch!" climactic showdown with the Queen.

The controls are simple: move with the stick, press button one to fire, the other to crouch and fire. The upgrades to your M56 are satisfying (particularly the flamethrower) and you can also deploy bombs by hitting both buttons simultaneously.

It would seem that this solid arcade title was never rereleased in any home format.
