AstroPop (XBLA) - Rank D, YFKM Award

Developer: PopCap Games
Publisher: Oberon Media
Date: 3/22/06

Also available for PC

AstroPop is another "casual game" from PopCap (the Bejeweled people). It's the same old "match bricks of the same color before they fill the screen" puzzle game you've played a bazillion times before. The production values and gameplay are passable, and you can pull off massive chain combos (the real joy of any puzzler). Some neat twists, such as special weapons and bricks with unique properties mix up the action nicely. At 800 points ($10), AstroPop is also half the price of its PC counterpart.

The reason I give AstroPop such a low score, is the complete lack of any multiplayer mode - not even offline. What good is a puzzle game without the ability to send junk pieces to your opponent's screen while casting aspersions on their genealogical background? This warrants the Direman Press "You're Fucking Kidding Me" Award.
