When Game Masters Attack!
Sometimes GMs panic. They've invested so much time in creating a specific story that they shove that plotline down everyone's throats. For example, they meticulously create an NPC, integral to the plot (in the GMs mind), that the players, for whatever reason, attempt to kill. Suddenly, that NPC is an invincible god! Or the GM has created an elaborate plot he (or on mythical occasions, she) wants to unveil. The players, however, want to go somewhere else. But due to the GM, they are railroaded kicking and screaming, down that plotline. Or the GM might simply be a clusterschmuck who has randomly decided that a player character must die for no logical purpose whatsoever. We salute you, Killer GM!
GM - Game Master; the individual that is responsible for controlling everything in the game except for the actions of the Player Characters
NPC - Non-Player Character; characters controlled by the GM

Roll to Die
Yeah, I've had to experience a few "Killer GM" moments, both as player and as GM. But man, sometimes these moments can just totally defy any sense of logic a game might have... like this example that happened to me many, many moons ago:
PC 1: "Man, that shiny magic wand in the center of this lake of coins looks tempting, but that giant snake swimming said coins looks mean."
Myself: "Hmm... I'm pretty quick and agile. I'll go get it for you. (To GM) I'll wait until the snake's farthest from me then I make a dash for the wand."
GM: "Okay. Roll vs your Constitution."
Me: "Uh... okay. I fail by 1."
GM: "Okay, you die."
Me: "Wait, what? HOW!?"
GM: "The snake popped up from underneath you, crushed you, and then ate you whole. You were being greedy."
Myself: "... right..."
Anyway, back to the drawing board. Lates.
