EA Star Wars
Disney's game division has been the only unprofitable part of the company. In response, they shut down all notable development aside from the upcoming Disney Infinity, a Skylanders sort of kids' game and merchandising hybrid.
And when they purchased LucasFilm, they promptly closed LucasArts. Now with this announcement, we see their game plan: take the easy licensing money.
You'd think a juggernaut like Disney would seek to continue their media sprawl, by extending their monopolies as far as their tentacles could reach. However, it seems that they have no faith in their ability to manage successful video game development.
EA recently swapped CEOs, and we'll hopefully see a more consumer-friendly approach from them, but I'm not exactly holding my breath.
