Valve Can't Count to 3

A gaming dedicated Linux platform - we're ever closer to cracking the final seal and unleashing the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Today, Valve followed up, as expected, by announcing Steam Machines, gaming/media rigs that will run the new operating system.

PC gaming has been dominated by Windows (and DOS) since the end of the monochromatic glory days of the Apple II, and the retirement of colorful contenders like the Commodore 64 or Amiga. Today, PC gaming is essentially synonymous with Windows.

No longer. Valve is attempting to disrupt the entire living room gaming ecosystem. Steam is looking not only to supplant Windows, but interject itself into the console marketplace, with an alternative product that is theoretically more adaptable and flexible. And they possess the industry clout and relationships necessary to make a serious go of it.
