Blue Blinky Light of Death
I wanted to give Sony a pass on this one, but their PR spinning rubbed me the wrong way. The phrase, "within the expected range for a new product introduction" is fairly disingenuous. I think every console since the introduction of optical drives has had issues. The PlayStation 1 ran hot (remember flipping them upside down helped somehow?), the PS2 had issues with disc read errors (among other problems), and PS3s pretty much all will "Yellow Light of Death" under prolonged heavy usage. Less than 1% is indeed a small sliver. However, this is 1% fresh out of the box, not eventual failure after at least some usage. That's unacceptable.
Sony has posted a troubleshooting guide for those afflicted with this problem. My favorite suggestion is, "Turn it off and on again." As if PS4 owners who waited in interminable outdoor lines wouldn't have already attempted this "solution" when faced with an uncooperative console.
