Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
I messed up. In our annual Direman Press Game of the Year Awards, I neglected Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. My excuse is that I hadn't played it yet, but the omission was nevertheless failure on my part. But since I rule over even my own incompetence by fiat, I'm good with correcting the problem:
Super Mario 3D World is hereby stripped of the Honorable Mention, which is reassigned to Brothers. And while we're at it, I'm upgrading Grand Theft Auto V from Honorable mention to co-runner up. There. Eat it, Past Me!
In any case, Brothers is excellent. It rocks a simple, clever mechanic to navigate two-character traversal progression that should be familiar to any well rounded gamer. Where it breaks new ground is in its thematic presentation. Brothers grants a poignant narrative experience that would be impossible in literature or film. Go download it now.
