Racist?

White is Coming

So...some people have told me that they miss my posts. I was under the impression that they were solely for my own cathartic purposes, but I'll endeavor to drop some words in the future. I may even go back and blog up older strips, should the mood strike me.

Anyhow, that is an actual European Sony PSP billboard you see in the background of today's strip. There's a European attitude that American culture is brutish and unsophisticated, and occasionally things like NASCAR and Rush Limbaugh make it difficult to counter such a view. However, when it comes to racism, we've evolved past them so far we're hurtling through the stars while they're still staring at the monolith.

For example, a black buddy of mine was refused service in a British restaurant. He was openly and flatly denied the right to dine there over the color of his skin. You could claim that that might be an isolated incident, and not representative of the society at large, but I recently saw some ESPN World Cup coverage exploring racism. The footage that made me cringe was of an entire stadium of fans chanting, "Monkey, Monkey" at a black player - one of their own stars.
