GameStop is Our Fault
That's a razor thin line Raines is claiming as the demarcation for sanity. It's like claiming, "We aren't into homicide; we're just paying for the purchase of the murder weapon."
However, I can't blame them. We yokels keep dumping MASSIVE margins of profit into their glorified pawn shop system, for games they don't make while cutting out the people that DO make them. Heck if I wouldn't do the same if I were in their shoes, milking gamers for all we're worth before the digital-future-retail-apocalypse finally does transpire.
Thing is, we had the chance to usher it in, but panicked instead and NETRAGED against the Xbox One's initial online validation policy. We could've had a Steam-style ecosystem on a console (Microsoft should've swallowed their pride, and directly marketed this perspective), which would've given us all our games, with terrific deals, and the bulk of the proceeds heading to the developers and publishers. Instead we were all knee-jerk BWHAAAAAA USED GAMES HOW SHARE?!
This rant already belies my middle-aged crankiness, but if a future piece of gameplay content (not just a skin or some piece of fluff gear) is exclusively available only through GameStop, I'm going to utter some truly choice invectives. Particularly directed at myself, if I'm weak enough to purchase it.
