This is now my all-time favorite nerd conspiracy theory
I'm going to lead off with a NON-SPOILER reaction to The Force Awakens. I'm so happy! I consider myself a jaded, grown-ass man, but the opening text crawl made me tingle, and the film never let me down through to the closing credits. I suppose I could say it could've been better, but it was GOOD ENOUGH, and I had substantial hopes for the film. The only quibble I have is that it was heavy-handed with the nods and winks to the Star Wars of yore, but the fan service didn't interfere with the core story being told. Star Wars is saved!
Back to today's specific topic, this fan theory is fantastic. It's compellingly thorough, although making arguments both from within the context of the fictional universe, and also from the context of the creators' decisions ends up being not entirely consistent. Nevertheless, I cherish the sheer mass of "evidence" submitted by the author!
The best part is that even after seeing The Force Awakens, this matter is not conclusively settled!

To Whom It May Concern,
Elijah Yun was absent from school today (December 18, 2015). We were not able to sleep until approximately 0300 hours, and Elijah was in no condition to attend class. The reason for the disruption in our schedule was the opening night of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Much to my dismay, in the past, when I have written Elijah excuse notes for such critically mandatory cultural events, Haskell Elementary has docked him with /unexcused/ absences. I want to ensure that this miscarriage of justice does not occur again.
As practicing Jedi, I request that Haskell Elementary respect our religious freedoms. The Jedi Church (www.jedichurch.org) is an officially recognized religion in the United Kingdom (the one nation where knights are still honored). The opening of the film, that essentially saved our faith, is clearly a high holiday in the calendar of our religion. Elijah must be granted a properly excused absence in order to avoid abrogating our Constitutional rights, in the same manner that other religious orders are permitted to observe their holy days.
