Special Thanks to Our Buddy Chris For the Line About Fireplace Poking
That she-orc is Lukra, Vargas' World of Warcraft character. He mentioned that he wanted to draw her in the strip, so here we go. I sense the insidious specter of continuity creeping up on me. Let's see if I learned anything from that last 384,234 part storyline we ran awhile back.
I tried out Call of Duty 3. It's simply a prettier Call of Duty 2 with a fleshed out multiplayer component that's more in line with what I've come to expect from Xbox Live. CoD2 was last year's Direman Press Game of the Year so this descriptor is solid praise: I recommend it without reservation if you enjoy FPSing Nazis.
This year's award goes to Gears of War. There were tons of reasons why I didn't want to choose Gears (I haven't tried out the new Zelda, wanted to award a game outside the shooter genre, potential cries of 360 bias, etc.), but this title simply stands out. There are a few glitches, and the campaign mode is fairly short, but Gears simply excels at being awesome. It fulfills the promise of next-gen visuals and audio, and combines that with next-gen gameplay mechanics (I talked about this at length a few strips ago). To put it simply, Gears of War ranks right up there with GoldenEye and Counter-Strike as the greatest multiplayer shooters of all time.
