Wii Beatdown

Yay! I got my Wii!

Funny, I tagged Vargas pretty good in the elbow playing Wii Sports tennis.

Here are two more original Xbox games you might want to pick up on the cheap: Indigo Prophecy and Everything or Nothing.

Indigo Prophecy is that rare breed: an adventure game on a console. You play as three characters - a murder suspect, and the two cops trying to hunt him down. The first half of this game is simply excellent. It's got that gritty crime drama vibe, driven by a touch of the occult, with a polished cinematic aesthetic and grown up sensibilities. The second half is where it all goes to shit with WTF plot twists, and it turns into a Matrix knockoff (I'd say parody if I thought it was intentional) with the fate of the entire world on the line. Nevertheless, what it does well, it does exceedingly so. There's nothing else like it out there, and if you're a budget gamer, it's worth checking out. (Note: apparently, a downloadable version for PCs is available online, replete with "Hot Coffee"-esque sex scenes excised from the Xbox version.)

Goldeneye is a game that has transcended to hallowed status, and Electronic Arts has been churning out James Bond games for years, trying to recapture that magic. They published three titles in the last console cycle. Agent Under Fire was garbage. Nightfire was better, but merely a passably generic first person shooter. With Everything or Nothing, they took a completely different approach. They turned it into a nifty third person action game, with a fun smattering of vehicular combat in the mix. An emphasis was put on production value as well, including the voice acting and face-mapped likenesses of Pierce Brosnan, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, John Cleese, Hedi Klum, Shannon Elizabeth, Mya, and Richard Kiel as Jaws. They even motion captured that prissy way Brosnan runs. It's all good fun, and captures the feel of playing a Brosnan Bond film, which is decidedly better than watching some of them.

[Edit: It's been brought to my attention that there were a couple other crappy Bond games last generation: Goldeneye: Rogue Agent and From Russia With Love. Don't play those either.]
