A videogame TWELVE years in the making finally dies an ignominious death. In that time, the Air Force field tested and deployed the F-22 Raptor. Google was founded, and grew to an empire. YouTube ignited a new media outlet. Apple designed and launched the iPod. Enough racists finally buckled and said, "Well, I guess I'll give that colored feller a chance." (Actual quote.) All that and more, and 3D Realms couldn't manage to put out one videogame.
I've read some message board threads expressing sympathy for the employees of 3D Realms. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? If we're talking about other development companies laying off staff due to recession cutbacks, well yes, I sympathize. But THESE guys? For TWELVE years they screwed around, swapping engines and diddling with changing assets as the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox all came and went. For a dozen years, they glibly took money from various publishers AND DIDN'T GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER.
How'd they stay "in business" without producing any tangible product for twelve years?

England - In response to Russian aggression, England has swung her forces to the east. However, the fight will be purely defensive as the English fleet can only equal the Russian forces threatening NWY. Germany will also be a significant concern with the construction of a second fleet and worse yet would be a Russo-German alliance. With the recent friendly gesture to France, England may have garnered an ally. Vargas will need all of France's support to survive the near future.
France - Imminent death has been averted as England retreated and a defensive line built in the south. France has also conceded the Mediterranean as Danny formed a new army in MAR. French strategy remains purely defensive and also must respond to the massive military buildup of Germany. If Italy continues to press France and Germany launches an all out assault, French fortunes will be bleak.
Germany - Now the big boy in the sandbox, Germany has 6 units to wield while his western neighbors are weak and divided. The $1,000,000 question is who will be on the receiving end of the massive assault. Options abound, but so do enemies as bullies can be ganged up on by a capable alliance leader.
Italy - A new fleet in NAP gives Italy much needed security and options to press the French. With France conceding the Med, Italy can do some serious damage with the right maneuvers and possible German support. Loss of English cooperation is a significant dent so German support must be curried immediately to make progress against France.
Austria - Austrian strategy depended heavily on Russian support into BUL to deny Turkey a foothold. However, Russia oddly retreated out of the Balkans entirely. Also, Russia moved her MOS army into UKR adding pressure to the northeast of Austrian domains. Whether these moves indicate Russian aggression or Russian neutrality remains to be seen, but they have cost Austria valuable time and momentum. A stalemate has formed in the Balkans so Austria built a fleet to counter the new Turkish fleet and potentially outflank Turkey. This move carries a significant risk as it places great faith in positive negotiations to woo Russia.
Turkey - The Sultan accomplished all his short term objectives for 1901 by getting his fleet into the Med, holding BUL, and halting Austrian expansion. Corse successfully lobbied Russia to remain at least neutral in his fight, but now must woo Russia to his side and cripple Austria. Also, Turkey must tread politely in the Mediterranean to not incur a defensive response from Italy.
Russia - Linda wins this turn's "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" Award with her perplexing evacuation of RUM. This maneuver may signify a desire to remain neutral in the region or it may mean the Russian leadership is drunk raving mad. Turkey benefitted significantly and Austria was left hanging in the wind. While this move does not signify a Russo-Turkish alliance, it does show considerably closer ties. In the north, Russian momentum has been slowed as a new fleet could not be built in STP/nc. Russia will now need German support for NWY, but we all know the high price of German assistance.
