Diplomacy III - Spring 1903 (updated with retreats)
England - Vargas decided to get his piece of croissant while the getting was good. Wise move as France had been bisected by Germany. An unofficial and uneasy cease fire seems to be in place in the North Sea as France is carved up. However, with so many units in close proximity to each other, Anglo-German hostilities may flare up any time. With some expansion room in the western edge of the board, England looks to be a major player in the mid game.
France - Danny's run was short and tragic. Thrown into the fray late in turn 1 as a rookie player, Danny actually did all right. The French home supply centers are lost, but a rogue element in Iberia can linger for quite some time. If France wishes to play barbarian, he can stymie someone's expansion into the southwest.
Germany - The defense of the eastern frontier looms large on the Kaiser's to-do list. The first objective of taking Paris will help generate reinforcements for the defense. However, expansion options are all but lost and will require the aid of another power to turn back the Russian invasion. To break out of this full defensive posture someone must come to Germany's aid. Of course, there's always the temptation for one (or more) of Steve's neighbors to join Russia in the fun.
Italy - After much deliberation, Marseilles has finally fallen. Italy's race to the western Med has been plodding due to defensive concerns and now must dislodge French partisans roaming the countryside of Iberia. Bill must make up for the lost time as Austria's campaign into Turkey is progressing faster than his. A battle for the Med may not be too far off.
Austria - Significant progress was made as Austria drives the lackadaisical Turks back to their homeland. Coupled with the Russian occupation of Constantinople, Austrian momentum rides at an all time high. The next issues will be if Austria and Russia will cooperatively divvy up the remains of Turkey and what the heck is that Austrian army doing in Tyrolia?
Turkey - Mike has all but conceded the game with a lack of retreat orders. Good game Mike, you actually tried this time, but didn't get the reward. Next game, play with the same aggression and you'll find willing allies. At this point, just make someone's life miserable, die with guns blazing!
Russia - Linda has poured a large force into a frontal assault into the German east. However, if Germany can get a new build in Munich, progress will come to a grinding halt. Russia will need England to renew hostilities or Austria to stab their cousins for a breakthrough. In the south, Constantinople has fallen and looks to be tenable with Austrian support or Turkish laziness. If Linda flips the province to Russia, she will have an excellent position to take Ankara as well without Austrian assistance. I wonder, what is the partitioning agreement? Hmmm...
