Bruce Campbell Is So Dreamy!

When people ask me, "Hey, you wanna go see Terminator?" or "Midnight opening of Transformers?" my answer is invariably, "I refuse to pay theater money to see the 'work' of McG/Michael Bay." Recently, I was buying a sandwich while wearing my old GI Joe shirt. The dude who rang me up exclaimed, "Did you see the trailer?!" He was all giddy, and I just didn't have the heart to spew my usual vitriolic snobbery. I replied, "It sure looks...crazy!" I received my sandwich while nodding and smiling as he gleefully proclaimed, "SERIOUSLY!"

Sam Raimi, on the other hand, piques my interest. Sure he let us down with Spider-Man 3, but that project spiraled out of his control. The upcoming World of Warcraft film has NO RIGHT to be watchable, but he's one of the few directors that just might have the ability make it worth my money, time, and the effort of withstanding the proximity of the unwashed masses.

I'm thinking Bruce Campbell would make an excellently swarthy Dwarven Hunter, battling hordes of the undead :) On a related note, I'm immensely enjoying Burn Notice. It's essentially the A-Team meets MacGyver. With Bruce Campbell in it. WATCH IT. First two season out on DVD:

Diplomacy IV - Spring 1902

Play the home version by following these forum threads! The adjudicator is also running a side game of wagering for spectators.

The images below depict the latest states of the board. A larger version is available for viewing by clicking on it.

As the European nations fight their petty political power struggles, they are unwary of the tentacled horror that is the Cycloptopus which approaches from the frigid north...

Austria continues on a downward spiral to oblivion. Beset on all sides by enemies more powerful, the Archduke must find a way to make himself more useful alive than dead to one of the three allies, lest he suffer the fate of Ozymandias.

... By the way, that's a Shelley reference, not a movie reference you Philistines. I would never consign Zeke to the running of a multi-billion dollar company with a line of thinly-disguised symbolic cosmetics. And by Philistines I do not mean those who follow the wisdom of Dr. Phil.

England is trying not to play host to a great many guests. Some have a tendency to fart, insult the parentage of their hosts, and fire off cows in ballistic trajectories. However, I must be honest, with the others Mike should be watching his jewelry and hoping one of the other players is his Samwise. England has so far held them off, but with Germans in the North Sea, can he fight on?

France is in an extremely enviable position. Will the tricolor shall fly above the Tower of London? With Italy and Turkey preparing for a showdown in the Med, it's hard to see where France's immediate competition is. Even the German anti-baguette smuggling force is looking somewhat small and circumspect next to the power of France.

Germany is making progress. The High Seas Fleet has taken to - er - the seas. But it's a mighty fine point on the German war machine, and his other forces are strung out in the rear, picking up territories he could have had in 1902 and guarding against the insidious influence of baguettes. Will Germany be able to win the race against France and Russia to get a piece of England? Or will it be France's Eric Lidell? Will anyone ever get that reference?

Italy Wow. Italy. Them's some nice racing stripes you just put on your sports car. Racing to the finish are we? But the whole idea behind the sports car is, of course, that it only does one direction really well. A critical point next year will be - is the next opponent France or Turkey?

Russia just can't get enough of that frigid northern lands. The Russians seem to have Scandinavia under their thumb, but can they keep it there? How long before the network of alliances that supports Russian hegemony starts to break up? Will Turkey or Germany strike?

Turkey - obviously Constantinople (or should I say Istanbul?) is nobody's business but the Turks, but there's a good balanced force of both fleets and armies ready to take advantage of whichever direction the Sultana sees as in her best interests. Now that Austria is obviously the near-term victim, a long-term victim must be determined - Russia or Italy?

Tune in August 3rd for the answers to many of these questions, and to the dramatic story of what the Cycloptopus is doing...
