Red Undead Redemption

Anyone else wearying of zombies? I sure didn't want any in my Old West. That's like making Reese's Peanut Butter Cups with peanut butter and synthetic motor oil. I generally hold Rockstar's products in high regard, but their "Undead Nightmare Pack" DLC for Red Dead Redemption seems...lazy.

When Call of Duty: World at War included a zombie mode, it was an entertaining bonus side distraction. It was originally just an in-house mod that some of the programmers cobbled up for their own amusement, and ended up getting tossed in as a freebie as an afterthought. (In retrospect, I'm mildly shocked that Activision didn't hold it back and release it as paid DLC.) With the semi-historical link between Nazis and the occult (and before the OVER-saturation of zombies), I found this fairly palatable.

But now it's gone just too far. I think it's Crackdown 2 that put it over the top for me. You can call them "freaks" if you like, but they're zombies plain and simple. As far as I can tell, I think that these zombies were implemented in the game just so they could use the song "Freaks Come Out at Night" in the soundtrack, because well, the zombie "freaks" only come out when the game hits its night cycle.

I'm always excited by advancements in A.I. design, and conversely I'm so over these half-assed cash-ins on the zombie fad.
