Death in Comics

I <3 Gwen Stacey!

The irony for me is that I'm actually enjoying these two comic books. As hokey as bringing back Jason Todd is (assuming it really is him), Judd Winick is doing a great job making me care about Batman again. For so long, Bruce Wayne has been portrayed as a cold, calculating prick. This "asshole Batman" was a Machiavellian tactician who didn't care about anything but his crusade to rid Gotham of crime. It's good to see a Batman with some humanity and emotions we can relate to.

I'm not digging Captain America quite as much, mostly because my sensibilities don't enjoy Cap stories where he's roaming around in Nick Fury's sphere of influence. Not that he should be a blind fool saluting anyone with a medal or a flag, but Cap doesn't strike me as a black ops kind of guy. That said, it's still a good read, mostly because Ed Brubaker is one of the best writers in comics today. His run on Catwoman is not to be missed, as it was arguably the best mainstream comic book during his tenure. And for black ops stories that unequivocally work, Sleeper, his Wildstorm book, was flat out awesome sauce.

Uncle Ben - His death was the motivating factor in Spider-Man becoming a hero
Jason Todd - The second Robin, who was infamously beaten to death by the Joker after fans voted to kill the character
Bucky - Captain America's World War II sidekick, who died in an explosion
Bucky Clause - "No one in comics stays dead except for Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben" much for that

More Gruel

Hey, my first post!

I want to start by thanking any and all of you who are currently reading the strips. If you also happen to be enjoying then, well that's even better.

I'm really proud of the way this strip came out. I've been pretty on and off on drawing ability since starting this strip with Dee, but this one was just inspired. I really hope you guys like it.

Anyway, I don't really have much else to say so it's back to drawing... I got sick last week and fell behind, so I didn't get my bowl of gruel for the week.
