Hey hey, sorry about the late post, but we had a MAJOR internet outage here in Los Angeles.

For once, Microsoft's gaggle of attorneys is allowing people to muck about with one of their products. Kinect is an astonishing piece of technology, and it'll be years (if ever) until software fulfills its potential. For now, we've got homebrewers hinting at that possible future.

The obvious application is as a videogame controller. I'm firmly in the camp that traditional games are best played with traditional controllers, but this is pretty cool nonetheless:

Then there's goofy stuff that can be achieved utilizing the Kinect's various sensors, for no other reason than to achieve goofy stuff. There may or not be a practical application for this down the line, but again, the potential is fascinating:

And then when MIT engineers get their mitts on the Kinect, they can't help but strap it to robotics that will eventually evolve into Skynet. One day, this device's descendants will peer at us and decide to strap us into the Matrix:
