This is a catastrophe for Sony. They're being forced to REBUILD their network from the ground floor, and they still have all sorts of liability and PR fallout issues galore.
I've long since been fascinated by the fundamental differences between Microsoft and Sony. The contrast is striking. Microsoft is, at heart, a software company, and their superior interface and network demonstrates that. Their debacle with "red ringing" Xboxes overheating and dying also belies their lack of focus as a hardware manufacturer.
Sony traditionally makes hardware. Their software engineers have always been treated as second class within the corporation. It shows. First they "protected" the PlayStation 3 with a master key that required naught but REMEDIAL ALGEBRA to decrypt. To safeguard their products, they slather DRM on everything, but they store sensitive customer information as unencrypted PLAIN TEXT?
Thanks Sony. My credit card info is floating out there in the ether ready to be snapped up by the highest bidder. Great.
Now Playing - Portal 2 (Xbox 360 - the other versions are better though; I went 360 to co-op with buddies) and Modern Warfare 2 getting my nukes (Xbox 360)
