Apple has eclipsed powerhouses such as Microsoft and Google as the number one brand in the world. This tremendous success coupled with Apple's inherent elitism has turned them into a juggernaut of arrogance.
They ignore problems. Plan B is to deny them. If neither of those work, they blame you. When those iPhone 4s with shoddy antennas hit, they had the temerity to tell you that you were holding it wrong.
There's a piece of Mac OS malware floating around called MacDefender. The function is similar to any number of similar Windows trojans. It installs itself into the system, then claims to be an anti-virus program that has detected an infection. It then offers you "increased protection" with a fraudulent credit card transaction.
Apple has instructed their support representatives to NOT HELP their customers. They can't even refer callers to the official Apple forums where users are discussing the matter.
Apple users have been cultivated to be willfully ignorant about malware. But now that Apple has significantly increased market share, their customers are going to be targeted with greater and greater frequency. They'll have to become more savvy and overcome their false sense of security. Right now, they're still sheep to the slaughter.
