Androgyny

Vaan is the prettiest dude to headline a Final Fantasy game, and that's saying something. I can call him gay without offending the homosexual community. Just look at him.

I know tons of people love the "modern" Final Fantasy games, but I feel that it's been going downhill after VII. Every outing seems to get increasingly pretentious, bogged down by interminable cutscenes that fail to advance the story. I had way more fun going back and playing IV than I did forcing myself through X. It's funny, X-2 was actually enjoyable because it focused on fun instead of delusions of grandiosity.

After they released images of XII's lead character, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to muster enough will to play it. Until that point, I'd been looking forward to it, to see where the new design team would take the series. However, Famitsu just slapped it with a perfect score, placing it among sacred titles like Ocarina of Time. I suppose I'll pick it up, if only to maintain my "gamer cred".

Fe-Male Leads

First I would like to pat myself on the back for a job well done. This strip just clicked into place unlike many others which I had to struggle with... even though they might have been simpler and, therefore, easier to do.

Anyway, yeah... Vaan... what the hell is it with Japan and their love of very feminine "guys"? Okay, never mind Japan... maybe it's not them, let me attack the real source of my displeasure: Square-Enix.

I remember playing their games back in the day. FF2 for the SNES (FF4 for those of you who INSIST on keeping the games in their Japanese release order) was my first romp in Square's then wondrous world. FF3 (FF6) was even better. The game became even more epic, and I loved almost every character. FF7 would be the visual achievement for Square. Now I get to see what the heroes actually look like... and then it begins to go downhill...

What happened to the Cecils, Kains, Cyans, Clouds, Cids (FF7), Lockes, Edgards, and Sabins? What happened to the manly men who were there to save the day alongside their beautiful but strong women? WHEN THE FUCK DID THE DUDES BECOME THE DUDE-ETTES? Who at Square thought it was a good idea to make the lead males overly stylish, and "pretty?"

*sigh* Maybe it's just me and the FF's are just the way gamers want them to be... but honestly, Square failed me for the last time with FF10. For me the FF series ended on 7... FF8 didn't suffer from the female males, but the gameplay was just not fun for me (I didn't enjoy the draw system at all). I didn't even bother with 10, even if that does make me lose "gamer cred". FF12? Unless the gameplay is VERY FUCKING AWESOME, I doubt I'll even look at it.

Anyway, that's my rant for now. Enjoy the strip.

P.S. Luigi kicks ass in this strip ;)
