Parenting Tip
When my son screws up, it's easy to 'pffft hahaha' at him if he wants something. Typically though, he's a thoughtful, kind, conscientious kid who I can't deny. I dunno how, but he somehow managed to accumulate his pitiful allowance for near on a whole year to save up for a Disneyland annual pass. I thought he'd blow it weekly on candy and toys, but now I've been forced to shell out for his pass, MY pass, one for his MOM, and the expenditure of effort to take him there. I never had his kind of devious foresight at age seven.
My mistake was allowing him to become aware of the existence of Disneyland. One of a parent's duties is to shield certain knowledge from your young ones: violence, lewdness, inappropriate language, the Star Wars prequels, etc. I wouldn't have had to scrape up $700 in one go if he didn't know Disneyland existed. Likewise, I exhort parents to hide the existence of Skylanders from your young ones.
