As of this writing, the Kickstarter for Ouya sits at over 6.7 million dollars.

I don't grasp the appeal of an open-source gaming console running on a modified version of Android 4.0. The makers are pointing out the massive growth of the mobile gaming sector, but that's not the experience I want at home. I want big-budget-triple-A-super-polished products.

Sure the $99 price point of the Ouya is attractive, but if I want to explore smaller production value indie games, the PC is more than adequate. And I already have one of those. Android gaming is for killing time in the dentist's waiting room.

I also don't like how they misrepresent the idea that all Ouya games will be free-to-play. A cursory examination reveals that that's clearly not the case, and the way they disingenuously imply otherwise does not engender trust in the rest of their rainbow party magical gumdrop claims.

And the fact that they're actively inviting hackers? I can't figure out their business plan. Won't all Ouya software end up cracked? Even the most optimistic outlook has got to expect rampant piracy on the system. Why would developers create legitimately professional games for this thing?

(Note to self: if the Ouya initiates a creative revolution and succeeds in delivering innovative games, delete this comic and post to eliminate evidence of my stupidity.)

I'm a Finalist!

A little over a week ago I mentioned that Ponies-for-Everypony, an MLP group on DeviantArt, is hosting a contest. Sunday morning I found out my entry was chosen as one of the ten finalists. That pretty much made me giddy for the rest of the day.

Now the winner will be chosen via voting by members of the DeviantArt community. For the next few days I get to watch as the number of votes bring me closer to or pull me further from first place. The suspense!

If you have a DeviantArt account and wish to support me, please click here to see the poll and toss my entry a vote, it's the one with the happy drunken ponies. Thank you!
