X-Com Remembrance

You Must Gather Your Party Before Venturing Forth

Certain RPGs lend themselves to virtual assemblages of your social posses. I remember meticulously recreating my buddies in Final Fantasy Tactics, down to making sure their astrological signs matched up with their birth dates. But the one game, whether the 1994 original or the recent remake, that most lends itself to this compulsion is X-COM.

And if you play the game with "integrity", eschewing the candy-ass safety net of reloads, your loved ones will meet with grisly ends. I employ each such occasion as an opportunity to pour one out. By "one", I mean a hoppy brown ale, and by "out", I mean down my throat. Sometimes, I send a friend deliberately into unnecessary peril for the prospect of justifying a drink.
