I have to admit, Sony put on a pretty decent show. They trotted out some interesting developers and some intriguing tech demos and made numerous pledges about what their next generation home console will do.
What I actually gleaned, however, was a song and dance of over-promises and vagarities. That is what marketing is wont to do, but I feel that "buzz and excitement" is merely a precursor to the inevitable disappointment of reality.
I do get the sense that Sony are more humble than in previous years. Despite my cynicism, I am daring to hope that they'll successfully refocus on providing a product that we gamers will be eager to support. There was once a time when, cost be damned, the PlayStation brand provided nonstop video gaming joy. Even if those halcyon days cannot be replicated, we need, at the very least, to keep Microsoft on their toes.
