Love the premise, loved the show. Wish Fox didn't kill what they don't understand.

It's still about the bottom line. To their credit, they seemed to have taken the Firefly issue to heart, and stuck with a show like Arrested Development (perhaps the best network comedy ever, seriously) to their financial detriment. Fans still didn't support it enough to warrant the financial outlay, so Fox may think twice about keeping a great, but unprofitable show on life support in the future :(

We can all blame Fox's various decisions: i.e. airing episodes out of order, shifting around the schedule, etc. and they are valid to a significant degree. But the bottom line is that we, "the fans", did NOT support that show sufficiently to demonstrate its sustainability. The instant we heard that "hey the guy who did Buffy is doing a sci-fi western thingy", that should've been enough to flock us together to fuel the ratings.

I went....I kept telling people about this really interesting show on Friday nights and no one knew what the hell I was talking about.... I caught Firefly airing over the "Fox Channel" via my satellite about a year or two after it went off the air and mentioned the show as being good in a few places, mostly got crickets back...It wasn't until the DVD came out that people started taking notice.

The box set of the series I presently have in my possession? I /think/ it's around the...8th?...I've purchased. I buy it, tell people about the show and lend it to them. When it comes time to get it back I usually just let them keep it because they don't want to give it up. When I bought this one I got it with two other copies, which I gave directly as presents.

It's unfortunate how everything turned out, but at least we have the chance to get more stories via other mediums. I know Whedon is presently releasing Buffy Season 8 in comic book form, along with the "sixth season" of Angel. I've only browsed the latter, but it's been fun so far.
