Well, if you guys want to be happy about choosing to leave the control of the world's greatest ever superpower that's your choice, and I'm happy for you.

Seriously though, happy 4th of July guys, and well done for killing us off with pitchforks.

Traitor day?

And not to justify our treatment of Native Americans, but I challenge you to find any significant chunk of turf that hasn't been conquered several times over! Er, Antarctica doesn't count.

One could argue that the Crown reneged on its duties to its subjects, thus relieving the colonists of the obligation of obedience.

The truth is probably something closer to: a bunch of drunken yahoo hooligans decided to play dress up and stick it to the man by chucking tea into the harbor, and the authorities clamped down way too hard in return. Considering how reluctant our founding fathers were to actually embrace open insurrection, the series of actions and events that led to the War of Independence was a fairly unique and unlikely historical scenario.

But no, you're right - "Treason Day" is an accurate, if utterly terse and incomplete, description of the holiday :)
