If this is legit, it's ridiculous. Apparently the fight against internet censorship is never-ending and requires constant attention, since the Powers That Be (aka wealthy corporations) are determined to fuck everything up.

One important distinction: SOPA/PIPA/ACTA/their brethren were government initiatives, but this new incident seems to have been the RIAA going straight to the major ISPs.

Is it better or worse that it's now a trade group rather than a legitimate governing body attempting to do the policing?

If it's a trade group, then they don't have to fear not getting elected. Instead they have to "fear" not getting our business. The problem is that they're pretty much it when it comes to internet service.
