What. The. FUCK.

Apparently the fire department has decided to run a mafia-esque 'protection racket' in Tennessee. This should absolutely be illegal, and whoever was involved in making the decisions should be in jail.

"Public Safety" is not the role of the gubmint, so I've been hearing as those saying the county's powers that be have made the proper, American choice.

Right... so in that case, who is supposed to fight the fires? Should the neighbors come over with buckets and garden hoses?

The firefighters, silly. You just need to pay the annual fee for their services. If you don't want their services, you don't pay.

A) The firefighters work for 'the gubmint.'
B) He offered to pay the cost of the firefighting efforts, and was refused.

All-in-all that's just shitty firefighting, no matter how you look at it.

We wouldn't even be having this conversation right now had a human being died in the fire. Those "firefighters" would no longer be firefighters.

So I've heard and read that the people defending the inaction of the firefighters are arguing that in not paying the fee, Mr. Cranick is denying the county $75 a year which are necessary to fund the services Obion County, TN offers (... like firefighting..?). I'm wondering how many of them realize that the county is now out of hundreds, if not thousands of property tax dollars since the value of Mr. Cranick's property, and his neighbor's properties, have now plummeted?

Yeah, pretty much. There's really not much more to say on this.

I should really check the forums more. Basically... this doesn't violate a "constitutional right" unless you count the fucking Preamble of the Constitution as part of the damn document.

Some fuckers need to watch more Schoolhouse Rocks.
