Transgender people finally being recognized?

Postby MadCat on Fri Dec 02, 2011 8:15 pm

I've been seeing a lot more "X actor/actress/celebrity apologizes for anti-trans slur" articles lately, and it was sort of interesting... I was surprised it was happening so often. Then I realized, it's not that anti-trans slurs are on the rise... people use them all the time, sadly. It's that now, people are finally realizing that they're actually WRONG, and are speaking up about it, educating the person who made the remark, and affirming that it's not okay to use anti-trans slurs. Good!

and while trying to find some of the other links I'd read recently, I come across an article:

http://publicreligion.org/research/2011 ... er-people/

stating that the majority of people finally support equal rights and recognition for transgender people? If this is really true, if this kind of positive recognition really is coming, and things really are changing... I'm stoked. I'm excited. I'm cautiously, tentatively optimistic. I'm hopeful. Man. I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I know that real recognition and equality is probably far off, and there will be many more painful battles before it's finally here. But just the potential, the light at the end of the tunnel... it's powerful.

Hope can be scary sometimes.
I want my job description to be: "gets paid to draw sexy ladies." :D
