So awhile back my inbox got full and the interface isn't all to user friendly so it took me awhile to figure out how to delete some old messages. Anyway by the time I did it I received another message but since my inbox was full I didn't get it. I know what the message was because I asked the person and he told me, but I have this annoying message above permanently saying (1 new message) and when I check my messages I have nothing. How do I flush my messages?

Meh, I'm no IT, but I checked the thing anyway, and I didn't find a way to flush the messages (unless selecting them all and then deleting them counts). But you can change the default action for when your Inbox is full. Check the Rules, folders & settings tab on the side. Below appears the option of deleting the oldest message when a new one appear. That should solve your problem.
